Why the nakshatra matters

The zodiac divides into twenty-seven nakshatras of 13°20′ each, and each into four padas. Where Western astrology leans on the Sun sign, Jyotisha leans on the Moon: your janma nakshatra sets the starting lord of your Vimshottari dasha, shapes traditional name-syllable customs, and is what a family priest asks for before a muhurta. If you don’t know your birth time precisely, the nakshatra is usually still reliable — the Moon changes nakshatra only about once a day — though on transition days the time matters.
